Following these simple steps to clean your glasses is effective in keeping your vision clear and avoiding damage to your frames and lenses.

GLASSES DON’Ts

  • Wiping with tissues, napkins, toilet paper or paper towel. Paper products scratch lenses.

  • Don’t wipe your lenses with the corner of your shirt, or any clothing.

  • Avoid glass or surface cleaners, these damage lens coatings. Do not use any home cleaning products such as acetone or alcohol on your frames and lenses. Many are corrosive and irreversibly damage frame and lens materials making them brittle and opaque.

  • Leaving glasses in the car exposes the frame and lens materials to extreme temperatures that can damage frame materials and coatings.

  • Glasses hate to be worn on the head as an Alice-band. This stretches the hinges beyond the intended movement resulting in breakages.

  • Glasses don’t like to be worn hooked on your neckline. Although they are easy to reach, they are prone to crushing, bending and scratching.

  • Removing glasses off the face with one hand puts pressure on the opposite hinge resulting in damage over time. Always place and remove glasses off your face with both hands.

  • Leaving glasses without a case makes them susceptible to damage: “if it’s not on your face, put them in the case.”

  • Wash your microfibre cleaning cloths but avoid fabric softener. Fabric softener residue leaves streaks on lenses.

  • If your glasses break, avoid DIY repairs if possible. Superglue and other makeshift solutions are difficult to remove and may make any existing frame manufacturing warranties void. Bring your specs to us as soon as you can, let’s see how we can help!
