Visual Midline Shift explained:

When communication systems in the brain are interrupted, there is a mismatch between how a person interprets the world and reality. The injury or event causes a disorganization of the systems of the brain that interpret space and the environment. This causes the perception that the body’s midline has been shifted. This means that where you perceive your middle, may be towards the left or the right of the ‘real’ midpoint. Many people are not aware of this but they automatically lean to one side to compensate when walking or sitting. This shift in midline and posture can also take place in a forward or backward direction.

What can we do?

Yoked prism therapeutic lenses can make significant changes in concept of midline, thereby affecting posture, balance and movement. These prism lenses change how a person interprets objects in space and this can assist in the re-training of the brain. The use of these yoked prism lenses may be incorporated into your existing physical or occupational therapy programs.
